Here We Go Again: Another School Bans Natural Hair

vanessa vandyke

What's going on at these schools? Another little black girl has been told by her school that her hair is unacceptable.Twelve-year-old Vanessa VanDyke has just been told that she has a week to cut her big Afro or get kicked out of Orlando's Faith Christian Academy, the school she's gone to since the third grade. Vanessa and her mom Sabrina Kent say they're standing by their decision not to change the girl's hair. She told Orlando 6, "It says that I'm unique. First of all, it's puffy and I like it that way. I know people will tease me about it because it's not straight. I don't fit in." That's exactly what drew attention to her hair in the first place; the girl said students were teasing her about her hair. Once she brought it to the attention of her school, administrators started pressuring her to cut it. Just as we saw earlier this year, the school decided Vanessa's hair went against the student handbook. The handbook says, "hair must be a natural color and must not be a distraction" and gives mohawks and rat tails as examples of distracting styles. Penalizing Vanessa for her classmates' foolishness is not right. The people that need to be facing consequences are the students who think it's okay to make fun of a girl because her hair's texture is different than theirs. All anyone can talk about these days is bullying and making sure kids who are victims feel safe. So why did this school not take chance to take a stand? They must know they look ridiculous just now saying her hair is unacceptable when she's been wearing her hair out and big with adorable flowers from the very beginning of the year. They should be ashamed of themselves. Vanessa and her parents are going to fight to keep her in school, but right now, this little girl (who gets good grades and plays the violin) could very well be expelled for something stupid and bigoted. Have you or your child felt pressured to change your hair?

Kanye West Yells At Sway Calloway Over A Question

sway-and-kanye For a moment there, Kanye West was unhinged. Yeezy hit up Sway In The Morning on Shade 45 and barked on host Sway Calloway when he dared to ask the rapper/producer why he didn't just flip his own clothing line.
Reports Complex:
Just a day after appearing in a medium-testy interview on the Breakfast Club—although 'Ye and Charlemagne were much more cordial than some probably predicted—Kanye West appeared on Sway's show today on Shade 45. Sway has a reputation of being one of the business's best interviewers. From Bay Area street rappers of the Sway and King Tech era to Lupe's heartfelt, tear-filled interview last summer, Sway is typically able to finesse interview situations with particular ease.
Not so with Kanye today, when Sway asks why the rapper couldn't "empower himself" with regards to his fashion line.
"You ain't got the answers!" Kanye shouts back. "You ain't spent 13 million dollars of your own money trying to empower yourself!"
Like a try professional, Sway did his best to defuse the situation without having to resort to yelling. Yeezy's definitely lost his composure, though.
Listen to the tense moment below, full interview on the flip.

Preliminary Hearing In Cee Lo Felony Drug Case Set For January

Preliminary Hearing In Cee Lo Felony Drug Case Set For January

Cee Lo made a brief comment to TMZ as he left the courthouse.
A judge set a date for a preliminary hearing date for January on Cee Lo’s felony drug case in court today (November 20), as per tmz.com. A specific date for the hearing in January was not specified in TMZ's report.
The Los Angeles County district attorney said in court today that they expect the preliminary hearing to last several hours, according to tmz.com. The prosecution said that the extra time would be needed to cover the full range of the case, the story says.
When he left court today, Cee Lo was asked by a TMZ reporter how it went.
“To be continued,” Cee Lo said.
Last month, Cee Lo pled not guilty to a felony charge of furnishing ecstasy and the Los Angeles County District Attorney cleared Cee Lo of sexual assault charges related to the same incident due to insufficient evidence.
The charges stem from a 2012 incident where Cee Lo allegedly gave a woman ecstasy without her knowledge before having sex with her, as per TMZ. If convicted, he faces up to four years in state prison, the site says.
“We are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago," Cee Lo’s attorney Blair Berk said to TMZ.com last month.
Berk also said that any sexual contact between the two was consensual.

"As it relates to the one charge of furnishing or sharing ecstasy,” Berk said, “Mr. Green will responsibly address that matter in a court of law."

Waka Flocka Flame's Mother Debra Antney Says Drugs, Greed & Women Ruined Gucci Mane

Waka Flocka Flame's Mother Debra Antney Says Drugs, Greed & Women Ruined Gucci Mane

Waka Flocka's mom Debra Antney responds to Gucci Mane's lawsuit and says he needs Dr. Phil.
Debra Antney, Waka Flocka Flame's mother, has denied allegations that she and her son stole money from Gucci Mane while she was his manager and the Chief Financial Officer of Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad imprint, according to rumorfix.com.
"I'm so speechless," Antney says, as per rumorfix.com. "It's so crazy. Waka wasn't even rapping in 2006… Drugs, greed, and women ruined him. That's it. Don't blame that shit on me."
Gucci Mane is suing for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy, according to tmz.com. The rapper also requested that Waka and his mother’s assets be frozen, and that Antney return a ring and chain that he says Waka's mother stole from him.
In his lawsuit, Gucci Mane says that Antney took more than the typical 20% percent management fee to which she was entitled, according to allhiphop.com. Gucci Mane also alleges that Antney’s actions led to his having money and tax problems, as per rumorfix.com.
"Bless his heart,” Antney said to rumorfix.com. “Somebody call Dr. Phil."
In September, Gucci Mane apologized to family, friends, members of the music industry and his fans for a Twitter rant earlier that month in which he made disparaging remarks about Nicki Minaj, Tyga and others. In his apology, Gucci Mane also said that he had been abusing lean and that he was incarcerated.

Buzz around launch of Jay Z’s Barneys collection more about high prices than style

The Madison Ave. display in Midtown is assembled Tuesday. Jay Z has said all the profit from his line will go to charity and that he will sit on a council to tackle racial profiling.

The Madison Ave. display in Midtown is assembled Tuesday. Jay Z has said all the proceeds from his line will go to charity and that he will sit on a council to tackle racial profiling.

Welcome to the Jay Zzzzzzzzzz collection.
More gawkers than shoppers showed up for the controversial launch of Jay Z’s highly touted, limited-edition, luxury holiday collection at Barneys — where the buzz Wednesday was more about the rapper’s sky-high prices than his cutting-edge design.
A couple who drove up from Philadelphia for the debut left the Madison Ave. store empty-handed and underwhelmed.
“I was a little disappointed,” said Salie Schimmer, 52, a personal trainer. “We walked in and we were like ‘Wow, this is it?’ ”

Schimmer, who described herself as the “oldest hip-hop fan in Philadelphia,” is a huge Jay Z aficionado, part of the reason she made the two-hour drive from the City of Brotherly Love.
But after seeing the lackluster response from shoppers and the prices — ranging from $70 for the cheapest T-shirt to $58,000 for an alligator-skin coat — Schimmer wasn’t optimistic about Jay Z’s sales.
“I thought it would be more exciting,” she said.

Schimmer, who is white, said she wasn’t affected by recent allegations from two black New Yorkers that they were racially profiled at the store.
Trayon Christian, 19 and Kayla Phillips, 21, have both filed notices of claim declaring their intent to sue.
Christian claimed he was stopped outside Barneys April 19 after buying a $349 Ferragamo belt. He said undercover NYPD detectives wrongly accused him of debit card fraud.
Jay Z faced pressure from some fans and civil rights groups to drop his alliance with Barneys after the allegations of racial profiling were reported.

Jay Z faced pressure from some fans and civil rights groups to drop his alliance with Barneys after the allegations of racial profiling were reported.

Phillips said she was stopped by undercover NYPD officers three blocks from the store Feb. 28 after buying a $2,500 CĂ©line handbag and accused her of debit card fraud.
After the Daily News first reported their stories, Jay Z faced pressure from fans and civil rights groups to drop his alliance with the upscale store.
The ruckus seemed to have tamped down the launch of his clothing line, Schimmer said.
“I think some people are going to stay away, it will turn some people off,” she said.

NYU student Andrew Davey, 21, wasn’t one of them.
He was among the few actually seen buying items in the small, black gallery on the third floor that housed Jay Z’s collection.
He plunked down nearly $3,000 for his three items, including a white-and-black itch-free ski mask that cost $695. He also got a T-shirt for $70 and a leather varsity jacket for $2,000, he said.
The prices at the collection ranged from $70 for the cheapest T-shirt to $58,000 for an alligator-skin coat. This $1,795 bag was one of the items available.

“I liked the style ... when you see it, you know it’s Jay Z,” he said.
Davey, a regular customer at the ultra-luxury store, said the “shop-and-frisk” scandal didn’t taint his view of Barneys.
“I saw it on the news but I felt like I doubt they would stop me,” said Davey, who is black.

He said he blames the NYPD and not Jay Z.
“I don’t know how much he can do about it,” Davey said. “Plus, he came out and said he would meet with them,” he added, referring to the performer’s latest public promise to head a council on racial profiling and give 100% of the sale’s proceeds to his foundation, which helps disadvantaged students pay for college.
But even for a good cause, the hefty prices put the goods beyond the reach of most New Yorkers.
“It’s expensive. The T-shirts are like $1,000,” said one young woman who declined to give her name. She perused for 10 minutes but left without buying anything.
Barneys CEO Mark Lee also showed up Wednesday morning to get a personal tour of the “New York Holiday” collection.
Lee, who didn’t show at a City Council hearing probing racial profiling at stores later in the morning, milled around the darkened gallery.
He asked employees if there was a lot of interest in the collection before he left around 10 a.m.
A few hours later, security guards were overheard talking about the lack of foot traffic.
“It’s been trickle, trickle, trickle” all day, one of them said to the other.

Colorado man posts Facebook photo with daughter moments before killing her

Police responded to a phone call from the baby's mother Kimphone "Kim" Phanthavongsa, 21, who said her ex-boyfriend was inside her apartment with their child and had a handgun. Moments after posting a photo of his beautiful baby daughter online, a disturbed dad made good on a Facebook threat and killed the toddler with a bullet to her head.
The chilling crime unfolded on social media after the little girl’s mom awoke Monday morning to her estranged baby daddy standing over her bed with a handgun, police in Colorado told the Daily News Tuesday.

The World's Tallest Waterslide Looks Terrifying

There's a waterslide currently under construction that looks to blow away the title of world's tallest currently held by Brazil's 134.5-foot tall "Insano," and it's being built in the United States.
Dubbed the Verruckt Meg-A-Blaster (verruckt is German for insane), the slide is being erected at the Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark.
The final height won't be formally announced until the construction is completed, but judging by the photo, it's substantially taller than 134.5 feet.
Think the slide couldn't get anymore extreme? It does. The Meg-A-Blaster is a four-person raft slide that allows you and three of your buddies to shriek in tandem as you reach speeds of over 65 mph while flying down the slide.
The project was announced last year and is expected to be completed in time for Opening Day 2014.
"This new MEG-A-BLASTER speed-slide is going to wow our guests and is going to be a game changer for our industry," Schlitterbahn co-owner Jeff Henry said in a statement. "Our greatest challenge will be to find thrill seekers brave enough to ride."

Gucci Mane Suing Waka Flocka and Mother for Conspiracy, Fraud

Gucci Mane Suing Waka Flocka and Mother for Conspiracy, Fraud

The ongoing issues between Atlanta rappers and former associates/friends Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame have continued this week with the announcement that Gucci has filed a lawsuit against both Waka and his mother, Debra Antney. According to TMZ, the 1017 Brick Squad Records founder believes that Waka and Antney are responsible for the downfall of his music career. Court documents state that Antney became Gucci's manager in 2006 and both Antney and Waka released Gucci's music without his permission and also collected royalties on behalf of the rapper and his music.

"Defendants' misrepresentations and omissions were made with the intent that plaintiffs rely upon them," read the lawsuit, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "The plaintiffs relied on the representations and would not have entrusted (the) defendants with their careers and livelihoods otherwise." Gucci says he's also found himself with tax issues due to the handling of his money by Antney. The rapper, who has requested that assets for Antney and Waka be frozen, is suing for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy.

This year any cordial relationship the two artists may have had ultimately crumbled and was witnessed by many on social media. This lawsuit is only icing on the proverbial cake.

Chris Brown Says Woman Claiming He Assaulted Her is Lying

Chris Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos, have filed a countersuit against Deanna Gines, the woman who sued Brown for allegedly pushing her to the ground outside of the Heat Ultra Lounge back in June.  Ms. Gines claims that she was left with an injured ligament in one of her knees as a result of the push, but Brown says she is completely lying.
Brown filed a defamation countersuit stating that Ms. Gines lied about the incident when she appeared on TMZ Live two days after the event, and that she sounded confused as to which knee was left hurt.  Chris and his attorney also claim that he never even came in contact with her for he was surrounded by security the entire night, and witnesses observed her intoxicated screaming "F*ck Y'all," to security and club employees.http://www.vladtv.com/images/g_blog_image/226185.jpg
